Starfield really should have waited, i feel its far too ambitious right now. Better to have a good game that can be replayed for more than a decade than a game that you forget about six months later like 99% of the games out there. Pandemic has obviously slowed stuff down. It will be the death of the franchise.Īlso, Starfield gets released first. My big worry is that with Microsoft in charge we're going to end up with rapid crap development, with new games aor DLCs out every sixth months just to meet marketing checklists. They spend their time on games with a tight core team, and other than FO76 (with a different team) don't release stuff before they feel it's ready. This is because Bethesda makes solid game around the idea of making games that hte developers want to play rather than because they need to tick off a marketing checkbox. Millions of people STILL playing Morrowind and Oblivion! Skyrim approaching it's tenth anniversary and sales are still going strong. Ditto for nearly every other game franchise that chooses to crank out titles.īethesda does not work that way and it's why their games past the test of time. A new Assassin's Creed every six months is just tiresome, and crap. Fallout, for example, spent a decade being rubbish before Interplay when bankrupt and Bethesda rebooted it. I mean tons of high quality titles manage to come out pretty quickly over time.įranchises that crank out titles too fast quickly become rubbish. All of those games would benefit quality wise with a 3ish year gap between each release, but they won’t do that as they know the games will sell regardless of quality. If they did what EA does with FIFA, what Activision does with Call of Duty or what Ubisoft does with Assassins Creed, the quality would drop drastically and it would be ruined. I know I want the next Elder Scrolls game ASAP because it’s my favourite franchise ever, I absolutely fucking adore it, but the large gap between the recent entries just proves that Bethesda, and now hopefully Xbox, realises how good the franchise is and that consistently adding new entry’s to the franchise would bring down its quality. The modding community just continuously breathes life into their games, which gives them a lot of time to take a break, do something else (Fallout 76 and Starfield) before needing to develop the next one. Todd Howard said they know the next Elder Scrolls game needs to be made in a way so that it can last at least 10 years, so I wouldn’t expect these games to start releasing more frequently after VI either.īut yes, you’re correct in the fact that they are milking Skyrim because they know they can, and they’ll do the same with TES VI.

They’re focusing on developing and releasing Starfield first and TES VI is after that. It’s taking long because they aren’t in a rush to make it, and that should make you glad because the quality of the game should be astounding.
